MacKenna Darling-Evans: A Champion On and Off the Stage

Now a seasoned veteran, MacKenna displays more than simply dance talent in her day-to-day life.

Miss MacKenna was barely out of diapers when her mom knew she was destined for something extraordinary. Chelsea Darling recalls that MacKenna had just turned 3 years old when she began her dance journey at Empire Performing Arts Center in Wichita, Kansas. “MacKenna loved it immediately and wanted to be like all the big girls (older students). She was always excited to go back each week and loved getting to perform on stage with her hair and makeup.”

Everyone who knew her understood that this would become more than a simple hobby, and as the years passed, it became clear that this wasn't just a mother's intuition. While Wichita is known for building airplanes, growing wheat, and producing a few famous faces, it has quietly been nurturing one of its brightest young stars: dancer MacKenna Darling-Evans.

Empire owner Rachel Weber has been coaching dancers for as long as she can remember and immediately knew that MacKenna was special. “Dance is often viewed simply as an activity, but competitive dance is truly a year-round sport that requires countless hours of training, rehearsals, conditioning, competitions, travel and sacrifice.” MacKenna has delivered and excelled at each step along the way.

“She (MacKenna) has grown from a young dancer learning her first routines into a dedicated athlete, assistant, role model and teammate, whose leadership represents exactly what we hope young people will become….that kind of dependability cannot be taught simply through choreography, it comes from character.” Rachel is a proud teacher and amazing mentor for MacKenna and all her students who truly wants only the best for each of them.

MacKenna competed this year at the 2026 National Dance Invitation in Las Vegas, Nevada.

For the past eight years at Empire Performing Arts Center, MacKenna has done far more than compete. She has transformed from a quiet, shy little girl into a fearless performer, a national champion, and an athlete whose work ethic is as impressive as her talent. Every practice, every performance, and every competition has been another opportunity to push herself further. Not because she had to, but because excellence is simply who she is.

But trophies and titles only tell part of her story.

MacKenna has become the teammate every young dancer looks up to, the assistant every instructor can count on, and the leader who understands that greatness isn't measured by standing in the spotlight alone. It's measured by encouraging the dancer standing beside you, lifting others when they're struggling, and setting an example through humility, discipline, kindness, and relentless determination.

Whether she's helping younger dancers perfect a routine, staying late to master a difficult skill, or stepping onto a national stage with confidence beyond her years, MacKenna represents everything youth sports should inspire. She proves that true champions are built long before the medals are handed out: they're built through perseverance, sacrifice, character, and an unwavering commitment to becoming better every single day.

MacKenna Darling-Evans isn't simply one of Wichita's most accomplished young dancers. She is the embodiment of what every coach hopes to develop, every teammate hopes to have beside them, and every parent hopes their child can become. Her talent may capture your attention, but it's her character, leadership, and heart that leave the lasting impression.
